OVERVIEW OF DISEASES TREATED WITH SANCTITY’S PURICINE FORTIFIED
A disease is defined by a specific group of signs or symptoms and some of these diseases can be treated effectively using drugs like sanctity’s puricine fortified.
Most poultry Diseases prevent affected animals from functioning normally. Diseases can be categorized by common causes, such as genetic, mechanical, toxic, and nutritional. Infectious diseases are caused by viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Parasitic diseases are caused by protozoa, worms, and external parasites such as mites and lice. Infectious agents, commonly referred to as “germs,” move from one susceptible bird to another in order to survive. For this to occur in a flock, a sufficient number of disease causing agents must be able to gain access to the susceptible birds.
Poultry are kept all over the world for various reasons. They are one of the cheapest sources of meat and can be kept by anyone, even in backyards. In Nigeria, poultry are kept by large commercial farmers for meat or egg production, by smaller farmers and by house holds in backyards. Poultry diseases are diseases that afflict poultry. Major types of poultry include the chicken, turkey, duck, goose and ostrich. Poultry Diseases are spread by:
* Direct contact (bird-to-bird, infected manure)
* Indirect contact (contaminated equipment, people, environment)
* Vectors (wild animals, rodents, insects)
In addition, infectious agents need a “home base,” or reservoir of the disease, to persist in an area. This reservoir could be other birds or organic matter providing life support for these agents. Disrupting the methods by which diseases are spread can greatly reduce the threat to your flock.
There are common signs of disease that you can use to detect potential illness in chicken and other poultry. Some of these include:
* Feather loss (unless birds are going through a natural moult)
* General inactivity
* Discharges
* Abnormal droppings
* Dull and/or closed eyes
* Ruffled feathers
* Drooped wings
* Sitting on haunches or lying down.
Common diseases in poultry in Nigeria
Some diseases have a greater effect and higher consequences for the bird population than other diseases. One of these, pullorum disease, fowl typhoid, diarrhoea in larger animals, coccidiosis and Emeria infection.
Pullorum diseases
Pullorum disease is an infectious poultry disease caused by the bacterium Salmonella pullorum but the good news here is that salmonella pull or um can be effectively prevented by using sanctity’s puricine fortified.
The disease affects mainly young chicks and poults, but can also affect older chickens, game birds, guinea fowl, ostriches, parrots, peafowl, ring doves, sparrows and turkeys. They share clinica signs with fowl typhoid, these signs include, anorexia, depression, diarrhea, dying or death, laboured breathing. Diagnosis in young birds is made by isolating the causative organism in the laboratory. In older birds, blood testing may indicate an infection but a positive diagnosis depends upon isolation and identification of the organism by laboratory procedures. Pullorum disease can be managed effectively by administering slightly higher doses of sanctity’s puricine fortified.
Fowl Typhoid
Fowl typhoid (FT) is septicaemic diseases, primarily of chickens and turkeys, caused by Gram negative bacteria, Salmonella Gallinarum.Fowl typhoid may be acute or chronic. Clinical signs and lesions in young birds are similar to those seen with S enterica Pullorum infection. Older birds may be pale, dehydrated, and have diarrhea.A tentative diagnosis may be made from the history, signs and lesions but final diagnosis must be based on isolation and identification of the causative organism.
Emeria Infection
Eimeria is a genus of apicomplexan parasites that includes various species capable of causing the disease coccidiosis in animals such as cattle, poultry, dogs (especially puppies), cats (especially kittens), and smaller ruminants including sheep and goats.
Coccidiosis
Poultry coccidiosis is one of the most common diseases in the world but the good news is that sanctity’s puricine fortified is very effective in the prevention and also treatment of poultry coccidiosis. Poultry coccidiosis culminates into economic losses due to mortality, reduced body weight plus the expenses related to preventive and therapeutic control, while also predisposing birds to necrotic enteritis. Worldwide yearly losses have been estimated at more than US$3 billion due to coccidiosis in chickens and other avian species. Characteristics of lesions will depend on the species of Eimeria affecting the intestine. Important diagnostic data to determine which Eimeria species is affecting a particular flock.The most common symptom of the disease is blood or mucus in chicken droppings. However, reddish chicken droppings aren’t always an indicator of coccidiosis. Chicken droppings may also appear brownish red in color due to the normal shedding of cecal cells. The only way to know if the droppings indicate an infected bird is to have the droppings tested by a veterinarian.Other symptoms of coccidiosis can include:
* Diarrhea
* Weakness and listlessness
* Pale comb or skin
* Blood located at the vent site of the bird
* Decreased food or water consumption
* Ruffled feathers
* Weight loss (in older chickens)
* Decreased growth rate (in young chickens)
* Failing to lay eggs or laying eggs inconsistently
Diarrhoea in Animals
Diarrhoea, or scours, occurs when intestinal fluids are not absorbed appropriately in the intestines. Usually these fluids are mostly reabsorbed and only a small amount is passed in the faeces. Anything that affects the intestines’ ability to absorb fluid may result in diarrhoea.
Treatment decisions for cattle suffering from diarrhoea should be made in consultation with your vet. Dehydration and electrolyte losses can occur rapidly when diarrhoea is present. Depending on the cause of diarrhoea, treatment options may include responsible use of antibiotics or anthelminthics, anti-inflammatories, rehydration fluids, vaccination, mineral supplementation and ration management.

Ciprofloxacin……200mg
Ampicillin Trihydrate……150mg
Dosage and Administration Sanctity’s puricine fortified
For oral administration via drinking water only
Pigs – 100g/ 100-200 litres of drinking water once a day for 5 days
Poultry – 100g/ 200 litres of water once a day for 3-5 days
Calves – 250g/ 100-200 litres of water, calves of 50kg body weight daily for 3-5 days.
