Learn how to – The Best Games to Play in 2021.

Another year of releases and another huge range of games have made their way into our homes. For our money, the games listed below are some of the best that any modern gamer could enjoy. If you haven’t read it already, you can still refer to our list of the best PC games to try we wrote last year, otherwise, let’s jump right in. A good point to note is that live casino games play just the same as on PC.

Doom Eternal

After a four-month delay, Doom Eternal arrived from ID Software and Bethesda in March 2020 to near-universal applause. Building on what was already a solid foundation with 2016’s Doom, Eternal ramped things up another level with more enemies, maps, abilities, and massively improved mobility.

One thing to note about Eternal is that it somewhat abandons the purity of the 2016 and the original two games. No longer just about ripping and tearing until it is done, Eternal asks the player to navigate resource management in the middle of blistering battles. Health, ammo, armor, grenades, flame throwers, and very big guns, playing in Doom Eternal is like doing a beautiful dance. A beautiful dance, with a chainsaw.

Also of note is that the game is amazingly well-optimized. If you could run Doom 2016 well then chances are that you’ll be able to hit a solid 60-fps in this game as well. Just consider that you might need to turn off VSync with lower-specced rigs, as it can introduce some odd input delay.

Cyberpunk 2077

While not yet released, there is no doubt that Cyberpunk 2077 is one of gaming’s most anticipated releases ever. Coming from The Witcher developers CD Projekt Red, this game has an impressive pedigree and legacy to live up to. All current trailers and media seem to indicate that Cyberpunk 2077 has was it takes to deliver the goods when it drops on September 17.

The gameplay in Cyberpunk appears to mark its RPG roots as somewhat of a successor to the likes of System Shock and Deus Ex. Choice plays the most important part of this equation, with players able to go stealthy, hack their way to corrupting their enemies, or crush them completely through overwhelming force. As a game that played no small part in pushing us to upgrade our rigs, Cyberpunk looks to push the envelope in world-building and first-person.

Going the Mobile Route

In this case, we’re referring to online game-streaming services like Google Stadia. If you have a 5G phone and a dedicated controller, this can let you play PC games like Destiny 2 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on the go, which is perfect for those often out and about.

Also popular on this front is simply abandoning the pretense of traditional video games, and instead turn to online casino offerings like those from Betway. Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Also released in March, Will of the Wisps is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Ori and the Blind Forest. Again taking control of the bright and expressive creature Ori, this game has players fighting and exploring through some diverse environments while trying to help lost friends, and restore order.

As a Metroidvania game, Ori is one of an increasingly uncommon breed. Throughout the game, the player grows more powerful, unlocks more traversal options, and finds new routes through what is undoubtedly one of the best-looking games ever released. Marrying style and substance on this level is no easy feat, yet developer Moon Studios makes it look easy, as they take the Unity engine to heights many thought impossible.

Half-Life: Alyx

It’s not Half-Life 3, but this might be the closest we get in a long time. Set between Half-Life 1 and 2, Alyx follows the eponymous heroine as she fights in the anti-Combine resistance. Tracking down reports of a secret super-weapon sets her down a dangerous path, and we can’t wait to see where this path leads.

The biggest standout for Alyx comes from its place as a VR game. While VR has been popular for some time, growth has somewhat stalled out, as no systems have been able to come up with a killer app. Half-Life Alyx could easily be this killer app however, as its place within one of the most successful and influential series of all time gives it a head start right out of the gate.

Combined with hardware support for many different VR input and control options, Alyx is a game that not only looks fun to play, but it also appears to combat many of the issues which current VR implies. A must-have for those who own VR, and a potential system-seller for those who don’t.

The New Generation

With PC gaming being as big as it is, these are only a small taste of what 2021 has to offer. Both in terms of exclusives and multi-platform releases, the new decade in gaming is not holding back any punches, as it starts with a bang. Whether you’re a long-time PC gamer or a new arrival, this year in gaming could be one of the best yet.
