What is Urinary Track Infection and STI

Urinary Track Infection and STD is a bacterial infection that causes the urinary tract to become irritated, leading to painful urination. Often caused by bacteria found in fecal matter since it can seep through unprotected skin or penetrate into the urethra from your rectum and vagina during sexual contact.

A UTI may also be passed on with direct genital-to-genital contact without protection of other barriers like condoms or dental dams; however this is rarer because genitals are more prone for microorganisms than anal/vaginal areas.

The risk factor increases when you have sex while menstruating as well due to cervical mucus being thinner which allows easier penetration of microbes entering either partner’s body system via penis’ shaft.

Causes of Urinary Tract Infections

The vast majority of UTI cases are caused by the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli), usually found in the digestive system. Chlamydia and Mycoplasma bacteria can infect the urethra but not the bladder.

People of any age and sex can develop a UTI; however, some people are more at risk than others. The following factors can increase the likelihood of developing a UTI:

• Sexual intercourse (especially if more frequent, intense, and with multiple or new partners)
• Diabetes
• Poor personal hygiene
• Problems emptying the bladder completely
• Having a urinary catheter
• Kidney stones
• Some forms of contraception
• Pregnancy
• Procedures involving the urinary tract
• Immobility for a long period
• Use of spermicides and tampons
• Heavy use of antibiotics (which can disrupt the natural flora of the bowel and urinary tract).
