How to Install Debian 10 (Buster) Linux?, How to install Debian 10 (Buster) Linux?. This guide will walk you through a step by step installation of Debian 10 Buster on VirtualBox, VMware, physical hardware or any other virtual environment such as KVM. My installation is from Debian DVD but the process is similar for CD installation (Minimal installation for servers).

As of this writing, Debian 10 is available for general use. Visit the Debian downloads page and get Debian 10 DVD iso file

wget https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/10.11.0/amd64/iso-dvd/debian-10.11.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso

Then create bootable USB or attach ISO file to a new VM being created in your Virtual environment. Then start to install Debian 10 buster.

## Create bootable USB medium using dd command
sudo dd if=file-path.iso of=/dev/sdX status=progress

For creating a bootable ISO on Linux, check our guides:

Create bootable ISO with WoeUSB

1- Boot your system from DVD or bootable USB medium and select “Graphic Install” to begin the installation of Debian 10 Buster through a graphical interface.

2 – Select Installation Language (English for most)

3 – Select your location which is used to set timezone and system locale.

4 – Set your keyboard layout.

The installer will do a number of check including content on installation media, networking, e.t.c.

5 – Set server’s hostname.

Do the same for domain name, which together will form server’s FQDN.

6 – Set root password in the next page.

7 – Add a user account for non-administrative activities.

8 – Set correct timezone.

9 – Partition disk

Here you can select guided partitioning or go with manual partitioning to use the desired scheme. If the system will only run Debian 10 operating system, you can select “Guided – use entire disk“.

In my installation, I’ll use LVM.

Select the disk used for installation.

Confirm disk and partition schemes.

Then write changes to disk.

10 – The base system installation should start.

11 – If you have additional CD or DVD for use by the apt package manager, insert them and scan, else select “No” to continue.

12 – If you have network mirror, configure it.

13 – Select Desktop environment and other utilities to install.

I’ll select “Cinnamon” DE and “SSH Server” installation. You’re free to choose your favorite Desktop environments – KDE, Gnome, Mate, Xfce e.t.c.

Wait for software installation to complete.

14 – Install Grub boot loader to MBR.

15 – Once installation is complete, boot into your new Debian 10 system.

Let’s first login as root user to add our standard user to sudo group.

Open your terminal and run the command.

sudo usermod -aG sudo username

When done, logout and log in back as standard user.

16 – Configure System apt repositories

Debian 10 has been installed successfully. We can view system details
