The installation of the application is easy. You just have to download a 29 MB file from the Stellar website:

Using the Application

Once you open the application, you will be presented with the choice to either open an offline EDB file or an online file from an Exchange installation.

If you select the Hosted Exchange option, you will be asked to enter the details of the Exchange Server. You can select the option to access all mailboxes on the server. You need full access to them or a particular mailbox. You would need to enter the mailbox’s credentials or have full access to the mailbox.

Once connected, you will be shown the hierarchy of the selection. If you’ve selected the option to access all mailboxes, you will be shown the connected (live) mailboxes and the disconnected mailboxes which are the deleted mailboxes not yet purged. In the view, you will also be shown any archives that the mailboxes would have.

By selecting the Offline EDB option, you can open multiple files at once and extract accordingly. You can either specify the EDB files manually or let the application search for the files from the drives selected.

Once the database is selected and the Temp location is specified, the file is scanned and the mailboxes, archives, and disconnected mailboxes are shown in the structure.

User Interface

The user interface is very familiar to Outlook and all the specific features are available on the same screen.

Left Pane

On the left pane of the screen, you will have all the structure and the view change icons to change from mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, and journal.

Middle Pane

In the middle pane, you will see the list of items in the specific folders. You will see the items as they are listed. You can do an in-line search by just typing in the search box and in real-time it will show the results.

Right Pane

The right pane is the review pane where the emails or items are shown in full HTML view and with attachments.

Extracting Data

With Stellar Converter for EDB, you can selectively export the data. You can export the data to PST, EML, HTML, and PDF. To export, you need to click on the Save button.

You will be presented with a choice of export to various file formats and systems.

Selecting Export to Live Exchange mailboxes and export directly to a Public Folder will let you export to an existing mailbox database or create a dial tone recovery database. Once the mailbox database has been created, you will be asked to enter the Outlook profile and the Active Directory Server credentials.

The same thing is needed to export to Office 365. 

After the connection is complete, you will be shown the mailboxes you selected along with the mapping. The mapping is done automatically but you can also manually map the destination mailboxes.

On the left-hand side, you have the priority list. If you have important mailboxes to be exported first, you can change the order accordingly.

You can also click on Apply Filter button which will give you further options, like specific folders to exclude, date range, and sender’s list.

Saving to PST is straight forward as all you need is to specify the location for the destination.
